Haddon Acre attracts visitors from all over the world. Close to London and Oxford, but set in the rural landscape, the unique atmosphere is inescapable. The Sinodun Hills have inspired artists and photographers for centuries and the Iron Age fort on Castle Hill hints at the history here. Dorchester on Thames was a major Roman settlement and can be reached on foot by crossing the Thames. You can walk for miles without crossing a main road and the view from the Clumps is breathtaking. There are several popular local wedding venues and the Yurt often attracts the happy couple.
Sue, Chris and Jonathan love the countryside and feel very privileged to be custodians of this magical acre of Oxfordshire. We have lived at Haddon Acre for 12 years and built an eco-friendly house and yurt 5 years ago. Sue’s background is design, specialising in clothing and textiles but as a creative person, loves all colour and texture in any context. Chris’ life has been dominated by music, firstly as a recording engineer and latterly in sales and marketing. Live music events have a particular appeal. Jonathan is an engineer passionate about vintage machinery – some of which can be glimpsed when visiting Haddon Acre. We are here to welcome you to this special place.
Where does one start with a review of such a place? The solar lit path leading up to the yurt and thereon guided by fairylights hidden in the trees towards the kitchen and bathroom. Or the first entry into the yurt and feeling like the world had turned upside down and inside out, and the stresses fell to the floor and out of the door....Or the fact that Sue and Chris were impeccably warm and inviting and bent over backwards to ensure we loved every minute. My only complaint was having to return to the doldrums on Monday (though, as I sit at my desk wondering where the carefree vibes went....I also realise that I feel lighter than I have for many many moons on Mondays).....
“Amazing! Brilliant! Fantastic! This is the first time staying in a yurt and we loved it. It is beautiful, spacious and great fun – and ideally located for long country walks. Our four year old boy loved the freedom and fresh air – and we loved hanging out in the countryside with the added luxury of a bathroom, plug sockets and WiFi ! Sue and Chris were great hosts and made our trip so special including leaving us lots of yummy local goodies (of which we ate the lot). Sue was always around when we needed her but also respected our privacy. We are already planning our next trip.”
“Thank you for your warm hospitality. You have all made us feel very welcome and we have had a fantastic stay at Haddon Acre, such a beautiful place to experience the stunning English countryside. We will definitely be recommending to friends and family”........
