The views from the bedroom and the garden are of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The farmland and the Wittenham Clumps are owned by the Northmoor Trust and the whole area is devoted to sustainability in farming and land management. This is Red Kite country and there are several local hot spots for these majestic creatures together with over one hundred other species of birds. From the top of the Clumps there is a panoramic view of surrounding counties.The Thames offers the obvious attractions plus the Thames Path and Days Lock, home of the world famous Pooh Sticks Championship.
The Ridgeway Path, the Chilterns, the Berkshire Downs, the North Wessex Down, the Cotswolds, National Cycle Route are all accessible from Haddon Acre. Boats can be hired to explore the Thames or the canals.
Oxford is a short drive or train journey from Didcot. Famous museums, the University a host of other entertainment such as theatres, cinemas and all you would expect from a world famous city. Wallingford and Abingdon are pretty Thames side market towns of historical importance.
Just over the river is Dorchester, an attractive village renowned for its Abbey Church, a place of worship for more than 1300 years. It is one of the largest churches in Oxfordshire and is believed to stand on the site of a former Saxon Cathedral.
Henley on Thames is only 15 miles away and is best known for the Regatta and the Music Festival as well as the unique River and Rowing Museum.
The next village of Brightwell cum Sotwell is justly famous for Mount Vernon, the home of the world famous Bach Flower Remedies.
